Mags MacLarenThank You

I would like to thank everyone who voted for me, helped out in the campaign and offered me support and best wishes.  I had an excellent campaign team who all put in a lot of time and effort during the campaign - I could not have wished for a better team.

However, the results are now clear.  Scotland has seen a national swing to Labour.  Unfortunately the politics of fear have won over the politics of hope. Labour's message was to keep the tories out yet in the past 13 years they have introduced policies which even Thatcher couldn't get away with.

The future for Paisley and Renfrewshire North will be the same at Westminster level.  We will be misrepresented by a politician who was afraid to show his face in the area, a man who has consistently voted for the privatisation of the health service, illegal wars and topped the lists for his expenses claims.

However, I will still be campaigning for the SNP in Renfrewshire.  During the long election campaign I met with many wonderful people and organisations who have been let down by Labour.  People who have problems with tax credits, pensions and benefits; organisations who have seen funding disappear as the Lottery Fund is diverted to the London Olympics and frontline public services facing cuts as billions are poured into new Trident nuclear weapons.

The SNP are still working hard to deliver the best they can for Renfrewshire, despite the funding cuts coming direct from Westminster.  If the threatened £25million in cuts come through next financial year, a lot of services and those who depend on them, will be under threat.  Only a strong SNP voice will stand up for Renfrewshire and Scotland.

THE REAL THREAT TO PUBLIC SERVICES PDF Print E-mail

"It is clear that Labour are the party that want to attack valuable public services", says Stuart McMillan MSP (SNP - West of Scotland).

In the Scottish Parliament today (Thursday 13th May) Mr McMillan highlighted a recent press article in which Labour MSP David Whitton highlighted that he wanted to "limit" access to free prescriptions, free pensioner bus travel and free school meals.

Labour politicians have spread scare stories about the concessionary travel scheme yet now the truth is out - it is Labour who want to cut this service!  Not only that they want to go further and place limits on free prescriptions and free school meals.

"The hypocrisy of the Labour party is unlimited - while they mislead the public on SNP policies, they are going around planning to take away essential public services from the people of Scotland", said Stuart McMillan MSP.
